Amniosis

Jack X Proctor and I met over six years ago and have, in some way or another, been plotting a collaboration for most of that time. Our conspiring ultimately resulted in Amniosis, a 1620-second 5-channel video installation that utilizes swaths of poly-cotton fabric to fill a small chamber with looping images overlapped and fractured across multiple surfaces. Both of our practices are deeply intrigued by the absurd, the surreal, the intimate, and the deeply human. We also appreciate the use of dream logic as an art-making tool and the way discomfort provides space for the discovery of new regions within our imaginations.
We wanted to explore the collision and caress that happen when individual and communal ecologies collapse into each other. As an entry point into that exploration, we created a pocket universe that existed in both physical and ephemeral space through the combination of video art and physical installation.
The piece was first exhibited at the Torrance Art Museum as a part of the 2023 “Baker’s Dozen” group show (at the invtation of curator Hope Ezcurra), which opened in May of that year.
